ISO 14001 and environmental cooperation between Mexico, the United States and Canada
Cooperation between Mexico, the U.S. and Canada in environmental management
HOW DID WE REACH THE CURRENT LEVEL OF CONTAMINATION?
Let’s begin with a reminder: What is the environment? It is the set of living and non-living beings that are found in our natural environment, this balanced set where nature coexists with human beings and in which, over time, species have evolved and men and women have developed their lives.
However, with the passage of time and the advancement of human life has caused disturbances in nature, in our planet, in animals and in ourselves. There has been an abuse of natural resources and a complete lack of environmental awareness.
The current concern about the ravages caused by the hand of man on nature is growing, governments are becoming supporters of the care that we must have in order to help the preservation of animals, nature resources and reducing global warming.
Both organizations and each one of us have a relevant role in this situation, since the place where we live and develop is being affected in different ways, some of the actions that damage our environment are the following:
- Emission of gases by factories, trucks or automobiles.
- Cutting down trees.
- Dumping polluting waste that ends up in lakes, lagoons or seas.
- Not treating toxic waste properly.
- Burning garbage causes heavy air pollution.
- The use of fertilizers, pesticides.
- Excessive consumption of fuels, electronics and plastic.
ISO 14001 IN YOUR ORGANIZATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL COOPERATION
As a result of the effects we have caused on nature, the Mexican government, the U.S. government and the Canadian government decided to cooperate with each other since 2018, to attack environmental problems and create policies focused on sustainable development for the benefit of the environment at an international level. The care of the environment is given through environmental protection and control measures hand in hand with the review of the correct execution, therefore, the aforementioned governments are taking action on the matter.
In Mexico, Canada and the U.S.A. there are norms and laws that take care of the environment, and with the agreement they will be taken into account and reinforced for the common good. One of the international standards is ISO 14001 which establishes standards to help and strengthen the health of our environment through the implementation of an environmental management system (EMS).
Organizations have the power to create and foster in their employees and in society a sense of responsibility towards the environment, and in this way reduce the impact. When your organization not only cares about improving and being environmentally conscious, but also has an ISO 14001 certification, it provides security and empathy to your customers, suppliers and staff, as well as supporting the health of the planet.
In addition to what was mentioned in the previous paragraph, there are even more benefits that your organization gains when you have an EMS, some of them are: The reduction of costs in the treatment of your waste, the reduction in the use of energy and raw materials, compliance with the legal environment of your country, you transmit confidence to new customers and potential investors and shareholders, apart from improving your image before the competition and society in general.
