ISO 37001, ANTI-BRIBERY AUDITS OF YOUR SUPPLIERS
ISO 37001 Anti-bribery Audits to your Suppliers
WHY EVALUATE YOUR SUPPLIERS?
The demands of the market, the vanguard and the present time lead organizations in different sectors of the industry to stand out above all others, one of the most important parts is to have management systems implemented and certified under international ISO standards, and another important aspect is to have a reliable chain of suppliers that meets the quality, environmental, safety and anti-bribery requirements for the organizations with which you work. Anti-bribery audits to your suppliers is a tool that allows you to measure the ability of your suppliers to supply the required products or services and evaluate the degree of compliance.
You can take different aspects that allow you to determine if a company will be a supplier that you will keep, and thus determine a strategy to follow with them and be sure that all the criteria and evaluation times that you establish, your supplier will carry out.
By auditing suppliers you will also be able to have a database of qualified suppliers, reduce costs due to bad practices or lack of quality, have accurate information on the strengths and weaknesses of your suppliers, and have greater objectivity in decision making.
ISO 37001:2016 FOR SUPPLIERS
Supplier audits can be based on the requirements of different standards such as: ISO 9001:2015 (quality), ISO 14001:2015 (environmental), ISO 45001:2018 (occupational health and safety), ISO 37001:2016 (anti-bribery).
ISO 37001 states textually that:
“Specifies requirements and provides guidance for establishing, implementing, maintaining, reviewing and improving an anti-bribery management system. The system may be stand-alone or may be integrated into an overall management system.”
This document addresses the following in relation to the organization’s activities:
Bribery in all types of companies
Bribery by the organization
Bribery by the organization’s personnel acting on behalf of the organization for its benefit
Bribery by business partners of the organization
Bribery of the organization
Bribery of the organization’s personnel in connection with the organization’s activities
Bribery of the organization’s business partners
Direct and indirect bribery
The choice of suppliers is complex as it is important to take several points into account in addition to the fact that it must give value to the organizations supply chain, so ISO 37001 is an ideal standard to ensure that your suppliers work under an ethical, professional and anti-bribery line.
Having this system implemented and certified does not ensure that your supplier will not suffer any bribery, however, it prevents them and helps to address the risks.

Another advantage is that, in the event of a legal investigation, it keeps documented evidence to support good behavior and action. Likewise, integration with the supplier is easier and faster. It provides greater security to potential investors and protects your organization’s reputation.
The phenomenon of corruption must be eradicated from both common and business practices. Having a certified anti-bribery management system indicates that you have a good management of these practices and will know how to handle and denounce them.
There are several laws on which an anti-corruption management system can be based, such as the following:
General Law of the National Anticorruption System.
General Law of the National Public Security System
National Law of Penal Execution
National Law on Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanisms in Criminal Matters.
Organic Law of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Mexico
Federal Law Against Organized Crime.
National Code of Criminal Procedures.
Federal Criminal Code
It is worth mentioning that the applicable laws in this standard depend on the country where the implementation and certification of a company is applied. It is important to see the fields of application and use them as support for a more solid anti-corruption management system.
