The Trend of ISO 9001 in Mexico and the World

THE ISO 9001 INTERNATIONAL STANDARD

The global market requires that the processes, products and services offered be of optimum quality to meet competitive demands and customer requirements; therefore, an increasing number of companies are seeking certification in quality management systems.

Standards are the models used as a reference to ensure that production processes or the development of a service meet specific requirements. In the case of ISO 9001, the aim is to achieve high levels of quality.

Precise adherence to the standards brings you great benefits as a certified company, such as continuous improvement, timely identification of risks and constant promotion of innovation; in addition, it ensures your customers’ complete satisfaction.

Around the world, the use of management system standards has increased considerably year by year; for example, certification in ISO standards increased from 1,307,622 valid certificates to 1,357,241 from 2018 to 2019.

MOST CERTIFIED SECTORS

The economic activities in which a quality management system can be implemented are divided into 39 sectors, of which, according to the latest ISO annual survey, in Mexico the 5 sectors that predominate in number of certifications are:

Base metal and fabricated metal products
Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles, motorcycles, and personal and household goods
Other services
Rubber and plastic products
Electrical and optical equipment

In Mexico, quality certification has had some variations in the annual number of documents issued; since 1993, when certification began, only 24 certificates were issued. In 2003 it decreased by almost 43% (1,437) with respect to the previous year (2,508 in 2002) and in 2004 there was an increase of 3,391 cases. Since then, there have been fluctuations in the numbers, but when they increase, they tend to surpass the previous peak in the statistics.
